Where the money goes

The Multiple Sclerosis Society is Scotland's leading MS charity dedicated to enabling everyone with multiple sclerosis to live life to the full until we find a cure.

Over 10,400 people in Scotland have MS, the most common disabling neurological conditon affecting young adults. Scotland has the highest prevalence of MS in the world.

The MS Society Scotland needs to raise £45,000 every week to fund our research and service projects. We provide care and support for thousands of people affected by MS and it is only with the support of people like you that we will be able to continue our work.

Here are some areas of our work your donation would help to fund.

MS Nurse Fund - A donation of £15 could help pay for a half hour of an MS Nurses time.
There are  22 MS Nurse Specialists to give support to the 10,400 people with MS in Scotland. More are needed to provide advice and support when MS hits hardest. The Society provides part funding for the first 3 years and is currently committed to 7 new posts costing £322,000.

Research  - A donation of £30 could help pay for 2 hours of MS Research.
As the biggest funder of MS research in Scotland the MS Society Scotland is committed to 10 research projects with a combined cost of £4.5 million. These projects are looking into the cause, cure and care of MS.

Information  - A donation of £50 would help pay for vital information packs about MS for people recently diagnosed.
The Society also provides a freephone helpline for people affected by MS which answers calls from people across Scotland.

Respite  - A donation of £100 would help fund the cost of 24-hour MS Nursing Care.
Leuchie House, Scotland's only MS respite centre, provides over 5,500 days of respite care each year. For some people affected by MS and their families a stay at Leuchie is invaluable.

Individual Support Grants - A donation of £250 would help pay for essential mobility aids.
Each year the MS Society Scotland gives grants to individuals for items they need because of their disability, but for which there is no statutory funding such as home adaptations, mobility aids and essential household items.
