Wendy Kidd to walk Shakelton's last 112 miles to South Pole!Wendy Kidd is raising funds for the MS Society Scotland and MS Society Northern Ireland, a charity close to her heart by walking the last 112 miles to the South Pole! In 1901, Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton mounted the first significant attempt to walk to the South Pole and with victory 112 miles away he made the decision to turn back. In 2008 Wendy walked to the North Pole, reaching it on the 21st of April. Her challenge for 2009 though is to walk to the South Pole from the point where Shackleton turned back. On the 10 December 2009 Wendy will start her journey, aiming to reach the South Pole on the 3 January 2010. In her team of 5, Wendy will live under canvas travelling on skis and towing a sledge of supplies. With the wind at a remorseless chill factor of minus 50, the team will traverse vast ice fields and enormous glaciers before reaching the plateau at 10,000 feet where they'll begin the final part of their journey to the southernmost tip of the world! If you would like to support Wendy you can visit her fundraising page on our online sponsorship facility, Just Giving. The link is at the bottom of this page. From everyone at MS Society Scotland, We wish you good luck on your journey Wendy! Click here to sponsor Wendy on her trip to the South Pole. |
