Stand Up for MS

Starstudded evening in Glasgow raises over £14,000!

An exciting and glamorous night was had by all at Glasgow's Oran Mor on 19th November. The tone for the evening was set by guests accessorising their outfits with fancy shoes and in one man's case, glueing sparkles to the toes of his brogues.

Guests were treated to a drinks reception while they were entertained by magician Steven Dick. The evening included a Raffle and Auction which included prizes such as tickets to Scottish Ballet's Cinderella and a pair of specially designed MS Converse Trainers by Starsparkles.

The evening's entertainment was sprinkled with the talent of Scotland, with performers such as Liz Lochhead, Una McLean and Siobhan Redmond taking to the stage to recite a poem or to entertain everyone with their thoughts on the subject of 'Shoes'. Other comic performers included the delightful Gabe Quigley and the Chewin' The Fat boys, Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan, who tried their hardest to coax the audience into finding the hidden Star Prizes. One of the highlights of the evening was Karen Dunbar and  Susan Calman's hilarious comic sketch which was full of shoe-themed puns and double-entendres.

The talented violinist Laura McGhee was the first of the musicians to take to the stage followed by Finbar Fury who regaled everyone with stories inbetween performing his favourite tunes. The evening drew to a close with the fantastic band MLC (Mid Life Crisis) fronted by James McPherson. They were even joined on stage by Tiger Tim Stevens and Joyce Falconer who had the audience on their feet.

We would like to thank our wonderful MC's from the night, Paul Samson, Blythe Duff and Colin McCredie who all did a spectacular job introducing the performers. We would also like to thank Rivercity's John Murtagh for being our auctioneer for the night.

A special thank you must be given to the actress Alison Peebles who helped organise the event. Thank you also to UBS Wealth Management, for their kind generosity in sponsoring the event.
