Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

See below for answers to your FAQs. Please let us know if you have a question which is not answered below!

How much time do I need to give?
We have a wide range of opportunities available at different times of the day and many of our roles can be carried out from home to fit around your availability. There are some time restrictions with some of our roles but we will try to find something to suit you and when you can volunteer. Don’t worry if you only have a few hours to spare a month, there will still be a range of ways that you can help.

What skills and experience do I need?
This will vary from role to role but in the majority of cases, training will be given to help you carry out your role.

What training and support do you provide?
As a volunteer, you can expect an induction and ongoing training as well as a main contact for support and information about key employees who can help you.Read more

Can I claim my expenses?
As a volunteer for the MS Society, you will be encouraged to claim all relevant out of pocket expenses that you incur to enable you to carry out your role with no expense to yourself.

Where can I volunteer?
You can volunteer for the MS Society from home, in your local town/city or within you local town, city or region. We also have a number of opportunities where you will be asked to travel to our National Offices from time to time to carry out your role in addition to some volunteering from home.

Who volunteers for the MS Society?
We welcome anyone with an interest in the work of the MS Society as a volunteer.

What will I be doing?
This will depend on the role that you carry out but you can be certain that it will focus on improving the lives of people affected by MS. You could be providing support and information to people who are affected by MS in your local area, fundraising to enable us to provide our vital services, helping to improve local health and care services, campaigning on issues that are important to you or helping to develop a website. You can e-mail the Volunteer Development Manager or phone 0131 335 4050 to find out more about the opportunities available.

How do I apply?
Please complete a volunteer application form, email or contact the above number to find out more. Read more.

Do I need references or a Disclosure Check?
Every role will require reference checks, however, a Disclosure Check will depend on the role that you choose to apply for.
