Training and Support for MS Society Volunteers
The MS Support Volunteer role is challenging but immensely rewarding. We believe in giving you the best opportunities to enable you to get the most out of your role. We have several ways of ensuring that this happens.
Training Programme Welcome Aboard - a pre requisite An introduction to the Society for new volunteers or an update for experienced volunteers on our objectives, structure, policies, priorities, roles and responsibilities of various parts and people within the Society and the support and resources available to support you. Supporting People 1 A one day introduction course to the role of the Society in providing support and practical assistance; boundaries of volunteer and staff roles; exploring the needs of people affected by MS; introduction to other key agencies and their roles and responsibilities and suggests a framework for dealing with the questions that come your way, and will provide resources to help you. Essential to all volunteers in a support role and who have already attended Welcome Aboard. Supporting People 2 Two day course for those who have already completed SP1 or a refresher for volunteers who have previously done SP2 more than two years ago. Includes, structure, roles and responsibilities of Scottish Parliament, health and local authorities; role of care professionals; identifying community and voluntary resources; an introduction to working in partnership; listening and communication skills; providing information. This is designed to provide you with up-to-date key information and to develop your skills. Support A designated member of staff will provide support to Support Volunteers. The Regional Development Worker will deliver your initial training and is available to support you afterwards.
