Fun, fashion and fundraising for MS
15.05.08
200 women from across Scotland gathered at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow on Friday 9th May for an afternoon of fun, fashion and fundraising in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland. The Ladies Who Lunch event, billed as offering good food, good wine and good company and all for a good cause, kicked off with a drinks reception followed by a fabulous catwalk show provided by Slater Women and Scott Event Management.
The guests then heard from the Society’s Director, Mark Hazelwood, about its work, providing an important reminder of the main purpose of the day, raising money to support people affected by MS. The event finished with a highly successful auction full of wonderful prizes, led by our experts, the Charity Auctioneers. The afternoon raised a fantastic total of more than £22,000 for the MS Society Scotland. It will be used for a variety of work including funding MS specialist nurse posts, supporting MS research and making grants for essential needs to people with MS. Gillian Whiteley, Events & Marketing Fundraiser for the MS Society Scotland said: “We are delighted the Ladies Who Lunch event has been such a success again this year, raising a massive £22,000. The fact that three out of four people newly diagnosed with MS are women makes it a particularly relevant event for females across Scotland. We would like to thank all the ladies who attended for being such wonderful guests and so generous on the day. Our sponsors, Deloitte, The Shine Agency, Slaters and Newton Financial also deserve special thanks for their support in making the afternoon so successful.” Mark Hazelwood, Director of the MS Society Scotland, added: “We rely entirely on public donations to support our work for the 10,500 people living with MS in Scotland, so days like today are vitally important. In addition to raising funds we also want to raise awareness about the condition and dispel some of the myths about MS and events like this are a fun way of achieving both aims. We also hope it will encourage others to become involved in the Society’s work to beat MS.” Find out more about fundraising at MS Society Scotland For more information or photos from the event, contact Ryan Norton at the MS Society Scotland on 0131 335 4058 or 07912 079 327.
