Get involved in researchHere are some ways in which you can take part in research funded by the MS Society. Two projects are currently looking for volunteers in Scotland. There have been several reports of the benefits of Pilates for people with MS, but so far no scientific trials of good quality have been carried out. This is a study into the benefits of Pilates for people with MS who use a wheelchair. Work focuses on a comparison of two groups: one group will attend Pilates classes twice per week for six weeks, followed by one class per week for six weeks. The classes will take place at two community centres, Craighall and Firrhill in Edinburgh. Classes start in March 2010 For more information contact the research team: Dr Cathy Bulley, Professor Tom Mercer, Dr Marietta van der Linden (all subject group Physiotherapy, Queen Margaret University, Musselburgh) - 0131 4740000) Dr Julie Hooper, Domiciliary Lead Clinician (Physiotherapist) - 0131 3374981, Paula Cowan MS Specialist Physiotherapist - 01236 781750. Or e-mail:mvanderlinden@qmu.ac.uk Participants will be asked to complete an online questionnaire about hope, social support, coping styles, satisfaction with life, quality of life and positive emotions. Anyone over 18 with a diagnosis of MS can take part. Fill out the questionnaire by the end of March 2010. |
