Research
The MS Society is the biggest funder in Scotland of research into the causes, cure and care of multiple sclerosis.
Our current commitment to research in Scotland is over £1.6 million. We are supporting research projects at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities. Recent and current research topics include: - How best to grow cells which might be useful in repairing nerve damage
- Identifying chemicals which are important in the process of nerve damage and repair
- The role of viruses in MS
- Support networks for carers of people with MS
Our future priorities for research will be: - Identifying environmental and genetic factors which make MS more common in Scotland than anywhere else in the world
- Better relief of symptoms (starting with fatigue)
- Cell damage and repair
