News in ResearchSee below for the latest news in Scottish research.For the latest news UK-wide and internationally, please visit the UK site The Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland has welcomed today’s announcement by Public Health Minister, Shona Robison MSP that the Scottish Government will provide a £70,000 grant to support the development of the first national audit of the prevalence and incidence of the condition in Scotland. Professor ffrench-Constant speaks to The Herald newspaper of the possibilies of stem cell research saying: "My vision for a patient coming into a clinic in 10 or maybe 15 years' time is they will be given a mixture of drugs to prevent the inflammation and to promote repair. That way, MS would no longer be a chronic, disabling disease." The MS Society Scotland was represented at a prestigious neurobiology symposium held at the University of Glasgow in April 2008. The Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland has approved funding of more than £1 million to support six innovative new research projects ranging from clinical trials, research into the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis (MS) and projects investigating symptom relief for people with MS (link to news section). 10 October 2007 Scientists in Scotland may be on the way to discovering the cause of long term disability in people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
